Barstock thermowell for high velocity applications
A Kármán vortex street is a fluid dynamic phenomenon that occurs when a fluid (such as air or water) flows around a solid object (such as a thermowell in a pipe) under harsh conditions (such as high pressure / velocity). The fluid separates from the surface of the thermowell and creates vortices downstream. These vortices cause vortex-induced vibrations (VIVs), which can damage or even destroy the thermowell if they are too severe. They can also significantly affect the stress on the thermowell.

Our barstock thermowell with patented helical iTHERM TwistWell design drastically prevents vortices alongside the complete length of the thermowell stem and reliefs the thermowell of the high dynamic stresses. It results in drastic mitigation of vortex shedding effects and makes it the perfect alternative for process conditions where standard thermowells fail due to vortex-induced vibrations!
